How to Fight on ONE Championship

ONE Championship is one of the largest combat sports organisations in the world, featuring Muay Thai, Kickboxing and MMA. For Muay Thai fighters in particular, ONE offers a unique format that differs from traditional stadium Muay Thai, most notably through the use of 4oz gloves and a faster-paced rule set.

This guide explains how fighters typically get the opportunity to fight on ONE Championship, including the role of ONE Friday Fights, Road to ONE tournaments, and how fighters earn full ONE contracts.

Most fighters do not debut directly as fully contracted ONE Championship athletes, though there are exceptions. Instead, the majority enter the organisation through feeder formats designed to evaluate fighters at a high level before offering long-term contracts.

There are two established pathways for fighters to enter ONE Championship competition:

• ONE Friday Fights
• Road to ONE tournaments

ONE Friday Fights events are held almost weekly, primarily at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. These events feature Muay Thai and kickboxing bouts under ONE rules and serve as the organisation’s main evaluation platform for new fighters.

Most fighters on Friday Fights:

• Are not under exclusive contracts
• Compete on a fight-by-fight basis
• Are evaluated across multiple performances

Friday Fights essentially functions as a proving ground rather than a guaranteed route to long-term involvement.

While ONE Championship does not publish formal eligibility criteria, fighters selected for Friday Fights typically share several attributes:

• A strong professional record
• Experience against recognised opposition
• Demonstrated effectiveness in high-pressure bouts
• A style compatible with 4oz gloves
• Often, current or former world title holders outside of ONE

Selection is competitive, and meeting these criteria does not guarantee acceptance.

Road to ONE tournaments are regional or national competitions designed to identify top-level fighters within specific markets. The tournaments are not directly run by ONE Championship, instead they are organised by selected high-level promotions, with ONE Championship approving the event and its winners.

These tournaments:

• Feature elite-level competitors only
• Offer winners the opportunity to compete on ONE events
• Occur less frequently than Friday Fights

Winning a Road to ONE tournament provides a direct route into ONE competition but does not automatically result in a long-term contract.

Fighting on ONE Championship does not necessarily mean a fighter is signed to the organisation. Non-contracted fighters often appear on the Friday Fights and compete on individual bout agreements whilst contracted fighters are signed to multi-fight or exclusive contracts and appear on ONE's larger events.

The most common path to becoming a contracted ONE fighter is sustained performance on ONE Friday Fights.

There is no fixed number of bouts required. Fighters may be offered contracts after as few as three appearances or after eight or more, depending on:

• Performance quality
• Level of opposition
• Finishing ability
• Consistency across fights
• Professional reliability

Winning alone is not sufficient; how a fighter wins is a significant factor.

In rare cases, fighters are signed directly to ONE Championship without competing on Friday Fights.

This typically applies to:

• Established world champions
• Fighters with major international recognition
• Athletes transferring from top-level promotions

These cases are exceptions rather than the standard pathway.
