Superlek Fails Hydration, Stripped of ONE Bantamweight World Title

Superlek Kiatmoo9 was stripped of the Bantamweight World Title after failing to pass the mandatory hydration tests despite making weight. Consequently, his scheduled bout against Nabil Anane has been adjusted from a five-round championship match to a three-round fight.

During the weigh-in process for ONE 172 in Japan, Superlek attempted his first hydration test one hour into the three-hour window but failed. He made a second attempt 16 minutes before the window closed and failed again, leading to the loss of his title on the scale.

This is becoming a pattern in Superlek's career. He previously missed weight for a title fight against Rodtang, coming in five pounds over the flyweight limit, which led to the bout being changed to a non-title match. Superlek also missed weight in his fight against Tagir Khalilov, resulting in the contest proceeding at a catchweight of 135.25 lbs.

Superlek initially fought in the flyweight division (61.2 kg) but moved up to bantamweight (65.8 kg) due to challenges in meeting weight and hydration standards. Despite moving up a weight class, he continues to encounter issues in this area.

ONE Championship enforces strict weight and hydration protocols to prioritize athlete safety and promote fair competition. These measures require fighters to pass both weight and hydration tests within a specified timeframe to ensure they are in optimal condition for their bouts. Addressing these weight and hydration challenges is crucial for Superlek to maintain his standing and competitiveness within ONE Championship.
