ONE Samurai 1 delivered a decisive main event as Takeru Segawa defeated Rodtang Jitmuangnon by fifth-round TKO at the Ariake Arena on Wednesday.
The bout, contested over five three-minute rounds, marked a rematch between the two following Rodtang’s first-round knockout win at ONE 172 in March 2025.
Takeru made an early impact in round two, scoring the first knockdown with 2:12 remaining after landing a left hook to the head. He followed that with a second knockdown from a similar shot with one minute left in the round. Rodtang beat the count on both occasions and reached the bell, although momentum had shifted firmly toward the Japanese fighter.
Rodtang responded in round three, applying sustained forward pressure and landing a high volume of strikes in what was a one-sided round in his favour. Takeru remained composed under pressure, absorbing the attacks without visibly retreating.
The Thai continued his approach in round four, again pressing forward and outworking Takeru. With 25 seconds remaining, Rodtang appeared to momentarily unsettle his opponent, though he was unable to produce a knockdown.
The decisive sequence came in round five. With 1:30 left, Takeru connected with a right hand that forced Rodtang backward, before following with a combination to the body and head. Two right hooks completed the sequence, resulting in a third knockdown of the fight.
After the restart, Segawa maintained pressure, trapping Rodtang in the corner and continuing with sustained combinations. With 39 seconds remaining, Rodtang went down again, prompting referee Olivier Coste to stop the contest.
Takeru celebrated with a backflip off the ropes before being awarded the Interim ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Title by Chatri Sityodtong.
In his post-fight remarks, Segawa reflected on his previous defeat and the significance of the result, stating: “I came to ONE and I lost, but I paid everyone back today.” He added that the victory brought “incredible relief” after sustained preparation, and expressed gratitude to Rodtang and his team. He also spoke about supporting the growth of the sport and the ONE Samurai series beyond his fighting career.
Takeru also received a performance bonus of 15,000,000 yen (approximately $94,000 USD).
The event forms part of ONE Championship’s new Japan-based series, designed to highlight striking disciplines and develop local talent for a global audience through a planned schedule of 60 events over five years.
