Earlier today, 1774 Muaythai Series announced that the bout between Australia’s Charlie Bubb and Spain’s Mouhcine Chafi in Sydney for the WBC Muay Thai Light Heavyweight World Title has been cancelled.
“We are absolutely devastated for Charlie and his team and have exhausted all options with no time for a replacement. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our 1774 fans and sponsors and thank you for your understanding.”
The bout was scheduled to be held on the 22nd February.
In a video posted on Instagram, Charlie said “I’m absolutely heartbroken by this news… I wish nothing but the best for Mouhcine, I know that if he could, he'd be here fighting…I'll still be there next weekend to support the local show, [and the] the fighters."
Mouhcine’s team were unable to get an exemption from their ONE Championship agreement in time for the fight.
Headlining the event will be Ibrahim Abou Saleh vs Josh McCulloch for the WBC Muay Thai Super Featherweight Australian Title. The card will also see Zoe Putorak take on Katie Mitchell for the WBC Muay Thai Super Lightweight World Title and Sambo vs Wanchaloem for the WBC Nai Khanom Tom Title.
